Into the realm of Profoundness

For years, I had the idea my hearing loss falls into the "moderate to severe" range.

Scrap that.

My new and, erm, improved status is now as follows:

  2. Congrats… I guess… I was “upgraded” from a severe to profound loss in both ears a couple months ago. The only good thing so far is that I can now get my hands on “disabled” bus passes which are around 1/3 the price of normal passes (and for someone who works downtown, it sure beats paying for parking).

  3. Hi Jo, I took the test at our dear association, of course. I got new HAs over the past 2 years, for each ear. And had my hearing tested again in the process.

Gregg: Oh well, here in Singapore, we have few ‘benefits’ for disability. We can claim disability relief - a tiny sum - in our income tax assessment, as well as wavier for radio license fees. If I can get such discounts for subway and buses here, I’lll sure save lots too. Alas!

  4. I’ve always thought I was moderate-severe for years, because I could actually hear with my hearing aids. But when I was 15, my doctor asked me, “How bad is your loss?” and I told him “moderate-severe”, then my mom (who is like my oral interpreter, also) corrected me, saying I was profoundly deaf. So, your story reminded me of mine!
